Voicing

The piano makes sound by hitting 1, 2 or 3 strings by a part called a hammer, which is made of compressed sheep felt, when a key is depressed. Therefore, by carefully adjusting the hammer felt, we can change the tone of the sound coming from the piano. Over time, as the piano is played more and more, the hammers get harder and thus produce a sharper, even harsher, tone. Voicing is this tone-changing and hammer maintenance work.

When does your piano benefit from a Voicing Service ?

-  If you are not comfortable with the sound your piano is making

-  If all the keys on the piano are producing uneven sound – not making the same kind of tones; mellow, bright and so on, and you can hear some notes stand out when you play all the keys one by one.

This service is booked along with the Tuning Service as an add-on service.

Voicing takes approximately one extra hour on top of the Tuning Service, depending on the condition of the piano.
